The role of yeast cell wall in dairy cows

Yeast cell walls have multiple effects on dairy cows:

Enhance immunity:

Stimulating immune cell activity: β - glucan in yeast cell walls can activate immune cells such as macrophages, natural killer cells, T cells, and B cells, enhance their activity and function, and improve the resistance of cows to pathogens. For example, when cows are infected with some common bacteria or viruses, immune cells can react more quickly, eliminate pathogens, and reduce the occurrence of diseases.

Regulating immune response: It can regulate the immune system of cows, keeping the immune response in a relatively balanced state. To avoid damage to the cow's body caused by excessive immune response, while ensuring timely and effective immune response in the event of pathogen invasion.

Regulating rumen microbial balance:

Promoting the proliferation of beneficial bacteria: Mannooligosaccharides in yeast cell walls are prebiotics that provide nutrients for beneficial bacteria in the rumen, such as lactic acid bacteria and fiber degrading bacteria, promoting their growth and reproduction. These beneficial bacteria can help cows better digest nutrients such as cellulose in feed and improve feed utilization.

Inhibition of pathogen growth: Mannooligosaccharides have a similar fixed receptor to pathogens on the intestinal wall of animals, which can bind to pathogens, seize binding sites, adsorb and eliminate intestinal pathogens, reduce the invasion of pathogens on cows, and lower the incidence of intestinal diseases.

Adsorption of fungal toxins:

Physical adsorption: Glucan in yeast cell walls has a special helical molecular structure that can form specific complementary structures with various mycotoxins, firmly binding with mycotoxins and being excreted from the animal's body through the intestine, avoiding the accumulation of mycotoxins in dairy cows and reducing the harm to their health.

Biodegradation: Yeast cell walls can also activate the phenoloxidase system to oxidize phenoloxidase into phenoloxidase, specifically degrading mycotoxins in feed and achieving detoxification.

Improve lactation performance:

Increasing milk protein content: The use of yeast cell walls can improve the rumen fermentation function of cows, promote microbial protein synthesis, and thereby increase milk protein levels. Experiments have shown that adding yeast cell walls can increase the milk protein content of cows, which helps to improve the quality of milk.

Improving milk production: By enhancing the immune system and improving rumen function of cows, the overall health status of cows can be improved, thereby increasing milk production. Some studies have found that adding yeast cell walls to dairy cow diets for a period of time can increase milk production to a certain extent.
